Whether you own a Bentley automobile or simply appreciate the aesthetics and quality of a fine watch adorned with the Bentley name, the new Flying B from Breitling is arguably the ultimate timepiece to complement the Flying Spur (or Arnage, or Continental GT) in your driveway. The latest addition to the Breitling for Bentley collection, the Flying B—named after the ornamental “winged B” symbol of classic Bentleys—is the first to feature a shaped case, a rectangular design that measures 38.5 by 57.3 mm.
In addition to its fresh
form, the Flying B features other distinguishing elements: notably, the absence
of an hour hand, replaced by a jumping hour mechanism displayed at 12 o’clock;
an off-centered subdial at 6 o’clock for seconds; mother-of-pearl hour markers;
and a rugged, knurled motif inspired by Bentley instruments. For clear reading,
the Flying B utilizes a beveled sapphire crystal that has been glare-proofed on
both sides, a useful feature should one opt to test the B’s water resistance of
100 meters (330 feet).
Available in steel, red gold, or white gold, and
fitted with an overstitched strap or a Speed bracelet, the Flying B employs a
high-frequency (28,800 vibrations per hour), self-winding Breitling Calibre 28B
mechanism replete with 38 jewels. Naturally, the Flying B is officially
chronometer-certified by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres).
Prices range from $12,550 in steel to $125,000 for a full pavé version. The
Flying B pictured, with Neptune dial and a blue crocodile strap, retails for
$12,620.
