Glovebox: Cut Loose
February 1, 2007
The way designer Michael Toschi
sees it, men should feel as though they look good and look as though they feel
good. Accordingly, he founded his company with the express purpose of supplying
men with shoes and accessories that sate their desire for both luxury and
performance. "It’s the difference between driving a Ferrari and a Ford Taurus,"
he says. "Both of them will get you there, but how do you want to get there? I
mean, life’s pretty short. How do you want to spend it?"
For his line of shoes, Toschi developed a carbon-fiber platform
called CIS (CarbonLite Ionet Suspension). The lightweight CIS system features a
geometry that favors the way we walk so that even formal footwear becomes a
comfortable proposition. And now, for more sporting applications, Toschi has
created a three-dimensional polyurethane platform called NEST (Natural Ergonomic
Standing Table). The second Toschi design to use NEST, the new SUV LE 2 is
finished in tumbled calf with goatskin lining, and uses elastic gussets for easy
entry and a conforming fit. Driving enthusiasts will likely find the mix of
style and utility appealing. Slated for release this spring—and available in
brown or black and yellow—the SUV LE 2 shoe retails for $550.
