If someone in New York wants to build a pool for their home in Costa Rica, they can have confidence in the Master Pools builder there," says Dick Covert, executive director of the Master Pools Guild. "We’ve got the globe pretty well covered." Established in 1962, the Guild allows high-end independent pool builders to share resources, creative design, and technical expertise.Gib-San Pools of Ontario, Canada, is an international pool builder and Guild member who monitors one client’s pool on the Caribbean island of St. Martin. If an issue arises, they will fly a crew down to address it. "At that level, the clientele expect to be catered to," says Ed Gibbs, president of Gib-San. "We can deliver the finest pools in the world to a vast amount of countries."
With over 100 members, the Guild makes it easy to find a luxury pool designer and builder in a field where quickly evolving technology and engineering allows for wild invention. Mowry Pools in Austin, Texas, created a hillside-hugging two-tier pool with a vanishing edge that mimics the curves of the Colorado River below. At the client’s request, a 10-foot waterfall drops dramatically from the upper pool to the lower. "Most pools now are extensions of the home, an entertainment center. Whatever you want—they can build it," says Covert.
