A synthesis is taking place. The sleek, clean lines associated with modern architecture and design are being embellished with classical tapers, ethnic influences, and contemporary nuances. Whether it is a cross between classical and modern, such as the Aria armchair by Paul Mathieu, a blast from the past, like the Biedermeier-style chair from William Switzer, or something that is strikingly new (the butterfly table by Based Upon), boundaries are being crossed and experiments performed. And we’ve chosen some of the most successful results.
