Edward Levy created his first custom crankshaft lamp in 1974. Since then, Campbell Levy Designs has fashioned a long line of lights with the automotive enthusiast in mind. “Each of our lamps is custom made and one of a kind, utilizing only authentic and period-correct parts, and each is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity,” says Campbell Levy, Edward’s son and business partner.
In addition to a large selection of modern crankshafts and cylinder heads, the company also has a wide assortment of vintage car parts ready to be crafted into a piece of illumination. According to Campbell, it is not unusual for customers to send in their own treasured parts to be constructed into a sentimental keepsake.
To ensure that each work is a one-of-a-kind creation, Campbell Levy Designs also offers various options for custom lamp designs. Various materials are available for the base, from granite and carbon fiber to exotic wood and stainless steel. Other options for the buyer to choose from include custom-machined lamp hardware, nickel plating, and shades made from silk, stainless steel, copper, and carbon fiber. “All of our lamps feature our custom nickel-plated brass hardware, and all of our crankshafts are highly polished and clear-powder coated,” says Campbell. Every lamp is built to last for decades; after 32 years, Edward’s first crankshaft lamp still shines on the desk of the oldest BMW/Mercedes dealer in the Rocky Mountains.
Prices range from $850 to about $6,000.
