OUTERLIMITS 39 QUATTRO
What do you get when you buy an Outerlimits 39 Quattro? Well, you get a boat, of course–a twin-engine marine missile capable of triple-digit velocities. The 39 is meticulously crafted and drop-dead gorgeous. But Outerlimits also gives you something extra: Jason Ventura.

Jason is Outerlimits’ service manager. The 35-year-old Rhode Island native is the guy you call when you’re about to join 150 powerboats on a 100 mph, 80 mile jaunt to Key West and you hear a strange noise in the engine bay. And here’s the kicker: Jason is right there on the dock, ready to sort it out. “I take my truck full of spares to all the major poker runs,” Jason says as he eases the 39 into the wind-tossed waters of Bristol Harbor in Rhode Island. “From Sarasota in April, to New York City in June, back to Sarasota in October, I’m there to make sure everything works like it should. And we don’t charge the customer a penny.” (Click image to enlarge)

Well, yes and no. An Outerlimits 39 Quattro will cost a little under $600,000, but it’s a small price of admission to an exclusive club. Outerlimits services every one of its boats as if its life–and its customers’ lives–depended on it. “I was on a customer’s boat when one of the forward hatches started banging,” Jason relates, his fingers itching to give the 39’s gleaming throttles a healthy shove. “So I went into the cabin and held it down for an hour and a half–at 120 miles per hour over four-foot waves.”

Speaking of rough water, when Jason finally puts the hammers down, we’re heading into some serious chop–and we haven’t even entered Mount Hope Bay. When we do, we’re flying over the tops of a nasty beam sea at 60 mph. And then Jason turns left and goes faster. In a few seconds, the two 525 hp Mercury motors have upped the ante to 98 mph in waves six to eight feet high.  The 39 handles the turbulent conditions magnificently, bouncing over the brine like a smooth stone skipping over a calm lake.

When the 39’s quad-step hull hits a cabin cruiser’s wake, we’re instantly airborne. Jason smiles beatifically. And why not? He’s doing what he loves best: showing a fellow enthusiast what his company’s products can do. And although Jason doesn’t know it, he has also proved the value of buying from a small, family boatbuilder. With Jason Ventura and the rest of Outerlimits’ staff backing you up, you simply can’t fail to have fun.
